About Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services (MHDAS)

MHDAS provides integrated and recovery oriented mental health, drugs and alcohol assessment, treatment and community support to people of all ages within the Barwon region experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, mental health and drug & alcohol issues, and their families.

Our service is internationally recognised for its innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are client centred, accessible and family inclusive. We are fortunate to enjoy terrific internal relationships and have developed excellent partnerships with the local community that provide for seamless integrated care for our clients.

MHDAS is entering a new phase of co-design of our service system with people who access our services and our wider community. This will build on our nationally recognized unique cultural approach to the challenges of recovery oriented service delivery to redesign our service system.  

 

 

About the facility

Barwon Health's major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.   

 

Barwon Heath’s Mental Health Drugs & Alcohol Services are actively building upon our nationally recognised reputation for innovative clinical programs and integrated models of practice that are consumer centred, accessible and family inclusive. In response to the Royal Commission, a 16 bed Older Adult Acute Mental Health is nearing completion in North Geelong.

This new purpose built facility has a co-designed model of care that is recovery oriented and trauma informed. It will provide clinical inpatient care for consumers aged 50 years+ with acute and sub-acute needs, with onsite facilities for outpatient appointments.

 

 

About the Role

To provide high quality, best practice direct delivery of psychiatric treatment and care to consumers within the McKellar Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre; as part of a multidisciplinary team which operates within a holistic Recovery Based Model. The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) will provide co-ordination, leadership and supervision of staff in the daily operations of the unit. The position will include some rotation to nightshift depending on service requirements. 

 

Clinical 

  • Practice using a new model of care reflecting the Royal Commission’s recommendations
  • Provide assessment and continuing care to consumers with a serious mental disorder
  • Work with least restrictive practices, providing therapeutic engagement to consumers

Leadership

  • Provide co-ordination, leadership and supervision of staff in the daily operations of the unit
  • Educate, guide and supervise student nurses as required
  • Act up as the NUM during short periods of absence and as required

Team

  • Join a multidisciplinary staffing profile, operating within a holistic Recovery Based Model
  • Enhance communication channels with other teams to encourage seamless service delivery
  • Positions includes some rotation to nightshift depending on service requirements
