Join Our Team

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) to join our dynamic Surgical/Colorectal Ward team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled registered nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, supporting staff development, and contributing to the operational leadership of a specialised surgical service.

Working closely with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), the ANUM plays a key leadership role in ensuring the provision of safe, effective, and person-centred care to patients undergoing colorectal and general surgical procedures.

 

About the Role

The Associate Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for coordinating clinical operations, providing shift leadership, and supporting the professional development of nursing staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement and patient outcomes.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and operational management during allocated shifts.
  • Coordinating patient flow and bed management to optimise patient care and service delivery.
  • Supporting and mentoring nursing staff, graduates, and students.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring compliance with organisational policies, standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Assisting the Nurse Unit Manager with workforce management, performance development, and service planning.

 

About the Surgical/Colorectal Ward

Our Surgical/Colorectal Ward provides specialised care for patients undergoing colorectal, gastrointestinal, and general surgical procedures. The ward is committed to delivering exceptional patient-centred care through a collaborative multidisciplinary approach, innovation, and continuous improvement.

 

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

Essential Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in surgical nursing
  • Previous leadership experience or experience acting in a senior nursing role.
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational abilities.
  • Commitment to patient-centred care, safety, and quality improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Postgraduate qualification in perioperative, surgical nursing, leadership, or a related field.
  • Experience in workforce coordination and resource management.
  • Knowledge of colorectal enhanced recovery pathways and contemporary surgical nursing practices.
  • Participation in quality improvement, accreditation, or research activities.
