About the role
The role of the Associate Nurse Unit Manager is to assist the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) in planning and delivery of high-quality care to each patient and family receiving community and ward based Palliative Care. The ANUM will provide leadership through strong clinical knowledge and the support of team members. The direct clinical role will involve providing clinical support as well as education to ensure excellence in palliative care service provision. The ANUM may also have responsibility of the After Hours Coordinator for the Anam Cara House building on the off-duty of the Director of Nursing (DON). The After-Hours Nursing Coordinator is the overarching delegated site manager at the Anam Cara building in these out of business hours period. They are responsible for the safe, effective and efficient management of Palliative Care services and resources.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and act as a role model for nursing practice, supporting the team in delivering high-quality, evidence-based palliative care.
- Foster effective communication and teamwork, contributing to a supportive and cohesive multidisciplinary environment.
- Take a proactive leadership role in addressing daily operational and strategic issues, supporting change initiatives and resolving challenges within the service.
- Maintain a strong commitment to ongoing professional development while supporting innovation and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
What we’re looking for
- Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with a postgraduate qualification in Palliative Care or working towards it.
- Strong clinical nursing skills with the ability to lead, act as a role model for clinical competence, and support both strategic and day-to-day team operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within and support a cohesive multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous improvement, innovation in care delivery, and ongoing professional development.
