About the role
University Hospital Geelong has an opportunity for an efficient and motivated Registered Nurse to join the Youang Surgical Centre management team as a Floor Co-Ordinator and Anaesthetics and Recovery ANUM.
Are you ready to take on the challenge of a leadership role? As the Associate Nurse Unit Manager in the Youang Surgical Centre, you will possess excellent clinical, leadership and management skills; actively participate in generating new ideas and committing to continuous improvement. You will be registered with APHRA and be able to demonstrate a significant level of clinical competence, with a proven ability to take a leadership role in strategic and daily issues through your professionalism, relationship building and personal drive.
You will have committed to flexibility and innovation in practice including an evidence-based approach to care and ongoing commitment to research, quality care and customer service.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and coordinate shift operations, ensuring safe, efficient patient flow and delivery of high-quality, consumer-centred nursing care in line with ANMAC standards and Barwon Health requirements.
- Deliver and model advanced, evidence-based nursing practice, acting as a clinical resource for staff, supporting complex decision-making, and ensuring care aligns with best practice, policies, and quality standards.
- Supervise, support, and develop nursing staff, including delegation, performance management, mentoring, education, and ensuring compliance with mandatory training, scope of practice, and skill requirements.
- Drive safety, quality, and compliance across the unit, including participation in audits, incident reporting, OH&S practices, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service effectiveness.
What we’re looking for
- Registered Nurse (AHPRA) with relevant tertiary nursing qualification and post-graduate training in Perioperative Nursing (Anaesthetics and Recovery).
- Strong clinical assessment, problem-solving, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex perioperative patient care and respond effectively to changing clinical situations.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership capability and adaptability, including ability to support change, work within organisational values, and contribute to a cohesive, high-performing team environment.
