About the role
Ancillary Assistants are responsible for ensuring a high standard of patient transport, restocking, and courier services, as well as maintaining cleanliness and hygiene throughout all areas of University Hospital Geelong. The Ancillary Assistant is an integral member of the hospital team, assisting and supporting the nursing and clinical staff in various functions, including cleaning and housekeeping, transport and courier services, and Patient Support.
These duties are done with patient welfare as the highest priority, ensuring safe practice in technique and infection control, respect and courtesy to staff, patients, and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high-quality environmental and housekeeping services including routine and enhanced cleaning of clinical and non-clinical areas, waste and linen management, equipment cleaning, bed making, and maintaining infection prevention and hygiene standards.
- Support patient care and ward operations through patient transport, assistance with mobility and positioning, meal delivery, food monitoring, replenishing supplies, and providing general ward support services.
- Maintain safety, compliance and quality standards by following Occupational Health and Safety requirements, infection control practices, information management procedures, reporting incidents, and participating in quality improvement activities.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team by communicating effectively with staff, patients and visitors, contributing to a positive team culture, supporting new team members, and undertaking duties within scope of training and competence.
What we’re looking for
- Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (PSA25) and Food Handlers Certificate.
- Service-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or in a team.
- Physically fit with ability to lift, move heavy items, and walk long distances during shifts.
- Strong attention to detail, time management skills, and commitment to safe work practices.
