About the facility
Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.
About the role
We are seeking applications from qualified cert IV allied health assistants or occupational therapy students (at least 2nd year) for the position of Allied Health Assistant to:
- Work Monday-Friday with orthopaedic, amputee, general rehab and spinal patients in the McKellar inpatient rehabilitation centre (south wing).
- Support the 4 south wing occupational therapists and 2 AHA colleagues with delegated therapeutic, administrative and stock management tasks.
- Run the south wing OT breakfast group
- Therapeutically facilitate delegated patients to regain independence in activities of daily living in personal care, meal preparation, functional mobility and transfers.
- Provide falls, hip precautions, energy conservation, fatigue management education
- Teach delegated patients to use adaptive aids and devices to enhance their independence.
- Close supervision and support from OT supervisor and colleagues will be provided.

- A clear and respectful communicator (verbal and written documentation)
- Excellent time management, prioritisation and accountability for providing a high quality service.
- Compassionate commitment to consumer focused care and team working.
- Experience in the screening, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic activities with patients both individually and in group settings.
- Ability to critically analyse own performance and acknowledge responsibility for your own learning
- Optimistic & flexible approach to prepare for the challenges that public healthcare is facing both now and in the years to come.
