About the role
The 12-month Unaccredited Vascular Registrar position is aimed at registrars pursuing a career in Vascular Surgery, particularly those intending to apply for the Surgical Education and Training (SET) program. The role provides a broad range of experience in managing complex vascular conditions, with regular exposure to both open and endovascular surgery, supported by access to a fixed imaging system in the operating theatre and additional elective procedures in radiology.
You will be part of a highly skilled, professional and dedicated vascular unit known nationally for its collegiate consultant group and innovation. The service incorporates advanced technologies including thoracic branch devices, TCAR, transfemoral carotid stenting, atherectomy and lithotripsy, as well as a comprehensive dialysis access service alongside core vascular practice.
You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team that values respect, compassion, commitment, accountability and innovation, with strong guidance from senior clinicians. Previous registrars from this unit have achieved high rates of success in SET applications, reflecting the strength of training and mentorship available.

The successful applicant will participate in all aspects of clinical service delivery, including after-hours, on-call and recall requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient vascular surgery care, including accurate assessment, management planning, prioritisation of urgent cases, and coordination of investigations, admissions, and discharge planning.
- Recognise clinical limitations, seek senior support when required, involve consultants appropriately, and work collaboratively to ensure safe, effective patient outcomes.
- Participate in a rotating ward registrar roster, shared on-call roster (1 in 5), and cross-cover for registrar leave.
- Attend and contribute to theatre, radiology, and outpatient clinic sessions.
What we’re looking for
- Medical qualifications registrable in the Australia (AHPRA Medical Registration).
- Registered as a medical practitioner in Victoria, either general or specific linked to a specific professional college training program
- Have successfully passed the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS Vascular) examination or plan to sit the FRACS Vascular exam
- Energetic, cooperative clinicians with strong emotional intelligence
- Strong clinical assessment skills, with a willingness to listen, learn, and continually develop
