About the role

Barwon Health is one of the largest and most comprehensive regional health services in Australia, providing care at all stages of life and circumstance across primary care, community services, aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, emergency and acute care. The service supports more than 500,000 people through a workforce of over 9,000 staff and volunteers across more than 20 sites.

 

The Ophthalmology Department supports a wide range of clinical ophthalmological services including corneal, glaucoma and vitreoretinal surgery, with a strong commitment to excellence in clinical education and developing research activities. The department has a strong focus on preparing senior trainees for consultant practice.

 

Applications are invited from unaccredited Ophthalmology trainees to complete a General Ophthalmology year. The department currently comprises 13 Ophthalmologists, one Ophthalmology Fellow and three Ophthalmology registrars (including accredited trainees). Subspecialty exposure is available in medical retina, vitreoretinal surgery, oculoplastics, uveitis, glaucoma and cornea.

 

The role includes one day each fortnight at Colac Area Health where registrars are involved in outpatient clinic services and may have the opportunity to attend additional theatre lists. The successful applicant will also be required to participate in the roster for after-hours, on-call and recall as required by the unit.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in clinical ophthalmology services across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Gain exposure to a range of ophthalmology subspecialties
  • Contribute to outpatient clinics and theatre sessions including at Colac Area Health
  • Participate in after-hours, on-call and recall rosters as required

 

What we’re looking for

  • Medical practitioner eligible for appointment as an unaccredited Ophthalmology Registrar
  • Demonstrated interest in Ophthalmology and commitment to training and professional development
  • Strong clinical, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
