About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for one (1) unaccredited non-core year Registrar to join a dedicated neurosciences team based at University Hospital Geelong. This temporary full-time role offers broad exposure across acute and ambulatory neurology, supported by experienced consultants in one of Australia’s largest regional neurology centres.

 

The Neurosciences Department is one of the largest regional Neurology centres in Australia and includes the Acute Neurosciences Unit (ANU) which receives acute stroke and neurology admissions, and an extensive ambulatory service. You will gain experience across general neurology and subspecialty areas including Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke/TIA, Movement Disorders, Vestibular disorders and Cognitive Neurology.

 

The role includes participation in Stroke/Neurology and Ambulatory rotations, contributing to acute and consultative neurology services. You will be supported by Neurologists providing leadership in acute stroke care, including thrombolysis and decision-making around clot retrieval. Training opportunities include neuroradiology meetings, EEG, EMG/NCS exposure and structured education programs such as brain school. On-call and weekend work is shared across the neurology team with strong consultant support.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide supervised day-to-day clinical management of ambulatory and admitted neurology patients
  • Participate in acute stroke and neurology services including ward rounds, consults and clinics
  • Attend emergency clinical problems, MET and Code Blue calls as rostered
  • Participate in after-hours, on-call and weekend rosters with continuous consultant support
  • Assist with discharge summaries, inter-unit consults and supervision of junior medical staff
  • Participate in teaching, education and quality improvement activities

 

What we’re looking for

  • Postgraduate experience in internal medicine; completion of or progress toward RACP examinations
  • Strong clinical, communication and teamwork skills with commitment to patient-centred care
  • Demonstrated commitment to education, quality improvement and safe clinical practice
