About the facility

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

 

About Barwon South West Public Health Unit

The Barwon South West Public Health Unit (BSWPHU) is one of nine local public health units established across the state. BSWPHU is funded by the Government of Victoria and closely works with the Victorian Department of Health. It serves the public health needs of approximately 500,000 people across 10 local government areas. Located within Barwon Health (University Hospital Geelong), the BSWPHU engages and collaborates with local stakeholders and partners to ensure that the regional communities we serve throughout the Barwon South West have support they need to have the best public health outcomes. BSWPHU has served the purpose of being a One-stop- shop and providing integrated services to the community in and around the Greater Geelong region and the entire Barwon South West Region at large that spans from Greater Geelong to the South Australian border and north to the Southern Grampians region. The primary functions of BSWPHU include management and control of notifiable communicable diseases, health promotion and disease prevention and supporting emergency response.

 

Our team is made up of public health physicians, infectious diseases physicians, epidemiologists, data analyst, public health officers, infection prevention nurses and community partnership team with extensive experience in disease prevention and health promotion, administration officers and communication and engagement advisor.

 

About the Role

The Public health registrar position with BSWPHU is an accredited training position. You will have the opportunity to work across diverse public health areas supporting the AFPHM training requirements. There will be opportunities to have optional secondment to other research and community-controlled organisations.

 

As a Public Health Medicine Registrar, you will have:
