About the role 

August Intake for the HMO2+ role offers a diverse and flexible training experience across a wide range of specialities within a dynamic regional health service

Residents in the HMO2/3 role complete four 3-month terms gaining broad clinical experience with strong supervision from experienced consultants and registrars.

 

Available rotations include:

  • Emergency Medicine
  • Paediatrics
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • General Medicine and Medical Specialities
  • Geriatrics
  • Rehabilitation
  • Psychiatry (community and Inpatient)
  • General Surgery and Surgical Subspecialities
  • Intensive Care (St John of God Private Hospital)
  • One term is allocated for cover and includes annual leave (5 weeks)

 

Training Pathways

The HMO2+ role provides tailored opportunities for entry into many speciality training programs including:

  • Surgery
  • Physician training
  • General Practice (Emergency rotation completes paediatric component GP training)
  • Emergency Medicine
  • Psychiatry
  • Obstetrics & Gynaecology

 

Additional opportunities include:

  • RACPG Rural Extended Skills Training placements in Emergency Medicine and Community Psychiatry
  • Diploma of Obstetrics (application required)
  • Emergency Medicine rotations support progression to the Barwon Health HMO Critical Care Year

 

Teaching and Education Opportunities

Located next to Deakin University Clinical School, you’ll have opportunities to supervise and teach students both on the ward and in the classroom which allow residents to develop valuable teaching and medical education skills alongside their clinical training.

  • The Near Peer Teaching Program,
  • Teaching on The Run courses
  • Simulation teaching mentorship
