Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac. 

 

About the Role

2026 Diabetes & Endocrinology Advanced Trainee (Fellow)

The Diabetes & Endocrinology department provides a broad range of endocrinology training and supports two accredited registrar positions (1 RCY and 1 Core), 2 Non-core Registrars (Early Access and Connected Care) and a Fellow in Endocrinology that can be accredited as an elective year. The department has a strong commitment to excellence in clinical, education and research activities and a strong focus on preparing senior trainees for consultant or academic careers.

 

The Endocrine Unit has 6 inpatient beds used for the management of diabetes and endocrine emergencies including a diabetes foot unit and supports a busy inpatient consultative service.  Trainees attend onsite ambulatory services and specialised clinics as well as attending unit educational meetings.  Research activities are supported with access to the large databases of the Geelong Osteoporosis Study and Geelong Bone Density Service.  The Fellow in Endocrinology provides outreach Diabetes & Endocrinology ward rounds to McKellar centre (rehabilitation and subacute care) whilst also supporting the Clinical Trials team to perform innovative trials in diabetes, obesity and endocrinology. The role requires participation in the roster for after-hours, on-call and recall as required by your unit

 

Applications are invited for advanced trainees or fellows to join our friendly and supportive department.  The department currently employs 12 consultants who provide inpatient services to both acute and subacute facilities on a ward service arrangement and ambulatory services through the Diabetes Referral Centre and General Endocrinology Clinic.

 

The unit participates in a monthly Multidisciplinary Thyroid Cancer Meeting, twice-weekly clinical teaching, fortnightly Unit Radiology Meeting and monthly journal club with links to the Monash Diabetes Education Meeting and Melbourne inter hospital journal club. Opportunities also exist to attend quarterly Paediatric Endocrinology clinics and Fertility clinic.

 

Applicants must have completed the FRACP Part 1 examination or equivalent and have at least 2 years of Advanced Endocrinology training.
