About the role 

Join the Geelong Cardiology Research Unit as a part time Research Medical Officer and play a key role in delivering high-quality clinical trials in cardiovascular disease.

You will provide medical care to research participants throughout their clinical trial journey, including assessing and recruiting participants, obtaining informed consent, reviewing and managing pathology and test results, providing education and clinical advice, and supporting data collection and management. You will also liaise with participants’ GPs and provide clinical support to hospital physicians, GPs and other healthcare professionals.

Working within a dynamic and internationally recognised research team, you will report directly to Associate Professor John Amerena, Director of the Cardiology Research Unit.

 

The Geelong Cardiology Research Unit has been conducting clinical trials since 2000 and participates in global Phase II–IV trials, as well as local clinical research and quality projects. With a strong reputation for high-quality research and successful participant recruitment, the unit provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to research across a broad range of cardiovascular conditions.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Recruit and provide ongoing medical care to clinical trial participants, ensuring protocol, consent and safety requirements are met
  • Screen and assess potential participants, review clinical results and manage adverse events and medical issues throughout trials
  • Collaborate with research staff, cardiologists, GPs and healthcare teams to support high-quality, compliant clinical research

 

 

What we’re looking for 

  • Medical degree with current or eligible AHPRA registration and at least two years’ experience practising medicine in Australia
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in cardiology and/or clinical trials, with strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing demands, including after-hours/on-call requirements
