About the facility  

Our major sites include University Hospital Geelong in Geelong’s CBD, the McKellar Centre precinct in North Geelong, Barwon Health North in Norlane, and residential aged care facilities spanning the region. Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.  

 

About the Role

The Barwon Health Medical Administration Registrar position is a senior management and training role in a large, complex, regional tertiary referral centre which provides regional ECMO and COVID-19 ICU services. As Victoria's largest regional health service, Barwon Health plays a significant role in collaborating with other health services in the Barwon South West region, including running the Barwon South West Public Health Unit (PHU). The successful candidate will gain a unique opportunity as a trainee to participate in strategic clinical services planning and quality improvement initiatives across a regional network.

 

The role belongs to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer consisting of the Chief Medical Officer and two Directors of Medical Services, all with Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA) experience. The role will be primarily based at University Hospital of Geelong with as required visits or short term rotations to other sites within Barwon Health for specific service or quality improvement projects if appropriate. Given Barwon Health's role and engagement with regional health services, there may also be opportunities to visit regional services alongside the Director of Medical Services whose portfolio includes building regional partnerships and collaboration.

 

The role provides the trainee with exposure to all aspects of medical administration and leadership across clinical governance, medical workforce and education, clinical operations, medico-legal, change management, service improvement and research governance through a unique regional and tertiary lens.

 

The Medical Administration Registrar role at Barwon Health is an established role supported by three consultant Medical Administrators (FRACMAs). Protected teaching and training time is provided to the trainee and participation in local and College-run education and continuous professional development activities is actively encouraged.

 

This position offers the trainee an opportunity to take a senior role in key management tasks and projects and is well suited to a senior trainee seeking to leverage off structured teaching and support to undertake their Fellowship examination. The role provides the trainee with exposure to all aspects of medical administration and leadership across clinical governance, medical workforce and education, clinical operations, medico-legal, change management, service improvement and research governance. Aspects and specific portfolios of the role may be tailored to meet RACMA training requirements based on the successful candidate's needs.
